A young man from Brazil has spent some time visiting in Romania and has posted his opinions on Romanians and Romania on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what Fernando Catilho Cintra thinks about Romania and Romanians:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 \u2013<\/strong> Dracula is a vampire outside Romania.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 \u2013<\/strong> The same dude, Vlad Tepes, is a national hero.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 \u2013<\/strong> While vampires drink blood, the real red thing I loved to drink was Visinata.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 \u2013<\/strong> Another devilish drink is Tuica, Hungarians call it palinka, but it is the same thing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 \u2013<\/strong> Most moldavians, muntenians and others have no idea what happens with Hungarians in Ardeal<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians smoke an absurd amount of cigarettes. They smoke inside their houses, restaurants, and even shopping malls.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians always take of their shoes when entering home<\/em>
.<\/em>
8 \u2013<\/strong> I believe Romanians prefer to keep their floor clean rather than their lungs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 \u2013<\/strong> Traveling in Romania is one of the best memories I have. Rivers, canyons, hills, mountains\u2026 They have it all<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 \u2013<\/strong> While traveling in Romania you will go through Romanian roads. They are in good condition, but they have an absurd amount of curves.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 \u2013<\/strong> Also when traveling in Romania, you might want to pee. But worry not; there are so many houses by the side of the roads that it\u2019s easier to end up in a bathroom than behind some bushes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 \u2013<\/strong> Maramures is a happy place. Happy people, happy costumes, happy collors, even happy cemetery<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 \u2013<\/strong> The only thing that isn\u2019t happy in Maramures are shepherd dogs. They are not happy. They don\u2019t like you. Run.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 \u2013<\/strong> In fact, unless you are inside a city, whenever you see a dog in Romania, run.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 \u2013<\/strong> Another tactic is to always carry mici with you. As I\u2019m vegetarian, I wouldn\u2019t mind giving mici to dogs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 \u2013<\/strong> As a matter of fact, as a vegetarian in Romanian I can definitely say: Romanians love meat<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 \u2013<\/strong> Sarmale, tocanita, slanina, carnati\u2026 you have it all, meat eaters.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians have soup every single day of their lives.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 \u2013<\/strong> Taxis in Romania are ridiculously cheap. In Bucharest they can cost as low as 1,29 per km.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 \u2013<\/strong> Another extremely easy way to go around is Hitchhiking. Romanians do it, and give it in return.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians also expect you to pay for giving you a ride. You can, of course, say \u201cnu am bani\u201d before hopping in, but you can get a frustrated driver to shout \u201cINCHIDE USA\u201d at your sorry moneyless face. (true story)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 \u2013<\/strong> My favorite mean of transportation though was by inter-regio train. They are cheap, comfortable, on time and often not crowded.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 \u2013<\/strong> However, you can end up inside a 12 hours train trip from Suceava to Mures back from New Year\u2019s holiday. Then you will know what \u201ccrowded\u201d really means. (true story)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians love skiing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 \u2013<\/strong> Skiing in Romania is absurdly cheap.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

26 \u2013<\/strong> It took me 3 full days to be taught how to ski. Skiing is not for Brazilians or tropical countries inhabitants.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

27 \u2013<\/strong> Once you learn, though, you will love it and open another door to my favorite part of Romania: Mountains<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

28 \u2013<\/strong> Romania has the most beautiful scenarios I\u2019ve seen so far in my life. All of them from mountain tops.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

29 \u2013<\/strong> Romanian mountains have incredibly well signed paths for hikers, cabanas for travelers to stay overnight and places for the more audacious to camp.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 \u2013<\/strong> By now you should have guessed that doing such a trip will be absurdly cheap.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

31 \u2013<\/strong> Interesting though is that many Romanians have never been to such mountains.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

32 \u2013<\/strong> Even more interesting is that Romanians will often overestimate some rather average places (e.g. Mamaia or Bucovina Monasteries) and underestimate awesome places (e.g. Bucharest).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

33 \u2013<\/strong> Bucharest is a great city. Sure it has no such architecture as Budapest, Krakow or other eastern European cities, but it has the museums, parks and nightlife that few others have<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

34 \u2013<\/strong> People say there are many stray dogs in Bucharest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

35 \u2013<\/strong> I had more dogs chasing me in any given day by bike that I had during a week in Bucharest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

36 \u2013<\/strong> Truly, I didn\u2019t see stray dogs in Bucharest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

37 \u2013<\/strong> Romanian language is beautiful. It sounds beautiful and is achievable for Brazilians to learn<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

38 \u2013<\/strong> \u201cCu carne de vaca nu se moare de foame\u201d\u2026. And my Google chrome translator thought I was writing in Portuguese.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

39 \u2013<\/strong> However, the most obscure part or Romanian language is Dativ.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

40 \u2013<\/strong> AHHHHHH DAAAATIIIIV!!!!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

41 \u2013<\/strong> You can say \u201cmi-e foame\u201d \u201cmi-e sete\u201d \u201cmi-e somn\u201d\u2026.. but you can\u2019t say \u201cmi-e oboseala\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

42 \u2013<\/strong> AAAAHHH DATIIIIIV!!!!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

43 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians talk with their shoulders. Observe it! When someone says \u201cpai, nu stiu\u2026\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

44 \u2013<\/strong> Follow the same exercise mentioned above and observe their mouths and the chin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

45 \u2013<\/strong> Hungarians won\u2019t admit, but they have THE Romanian accent. The way of saying \u201cnu stiu\u201d is the same of saying \u201cnem tudom\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

46 \u2013<\/strong> My preferred way of practicing Romanian is with drivers that have me a ride by the road.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

47 \u2013<\/strong> They would often say what the hell am I doing in such a country if am Brazlian.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

48 \u2013<\/strong> These drivers didn\u2019t know that Romanian healthcare system is great, it has a lower murder rate than Norway and is the fastest growing economy from eastern European countries.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

49 \u2013<\/strong> Generally Romanians complain about Romania. They will find a way to complain about it. Politics, economy, society\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

50 \u2013<\/strong> They are wrong.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

51 \u2013<\/strong> I learned what 4 seasons mean: Hot summers, cool autumns, cold winters and fresh springs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

52 \u2013<\/strong> Romania has all the 4 seasons with two huge advantages from northern countries: In winters they have sun. In summer it\u2019s not cloudy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

53 \u2013<\/strong> Romania has a nice wildlife: Dears can be seen frequently, black goats can be seen on occasion (been there done that), bears and wolves are invisible<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

54 \u2013<\/strong> The closest we\u2019ve been to a bear was its footprints<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

55 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians are latin in language, but not as latin in blood.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

56 \u2013<\/strong> When you enter an office, you have to shake hands with the men but you just wave to the women.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

57 \u2013<\/strong> Romanians expected that me as a Brazilian would play football really well\u2026 Terrible mistake<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

58 \u2013<\/strong> For months after the world cup I would hear \u201cso, do you like Germany\u201d from people. Go to hell\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

59 \u2013<\/strong> Most Romanians at their 18\u2019s have two dreams in mind: 1 \u2013 Moving to the UK. 2- Moving to any other country that isn\u2019t Romania.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
